Purchase this amazing print "Rolling = Life" by Chris Shirley at Hiatus Design. In his own words Chris describes this piece of work:
"I began BJJ in 2008 after reading about it in a surfing magazine while deployed to Iraq a few years earlier. It was still a very new sport back then, and there wasn’t much information about it compared to traditional martial arts.
It wasn’t until I partially tore my ACL in a TaeKwonDo competition, thanks to a lazy axe kick (my fault), that I decided to give BJJ a go while my ligament was healing. I found I absolutely loved it, despite getting choked out in my first lesson (again, my fault entirely, I should’ve tapped out).
Over the next few years, I bounced between different schools around deployments and wherever I was based, and always found it to be the consistent thing in my life. No matter what was happening, ‘rolling’ would be there to keep me on my toes.
It was around then I realised the similarity between life and BJJ: one moment you could be in a good position, and the next in a really terrible one, getting the good news by your sparring partner (or life, as a metaphor) in a rear naked choke hold.
It's a reminder that whether you're up or down, it won't last, so just be ready for that."
All proceeds raised from the sale of our artwork, goes directly to supporting the Art of War Foundation raising much needed funds to support mental health.
